Many companies are currently faced with a shortage of candidates for their skilled trades positions. The Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program, a training opportunity for cooperative education students in grades 11 and 12, is designed to promote careers in the skilled trades through apprenticeships. Together we can encourage youth to explore the trades as an exciting and profitable career path, leading to lifelong learning and employment. • raise the awareness of apprenticeship as an option for students; • increase the profile of the trades, • pass on your trade skills to an apprentice, • start training tomorrow’s work force and help meet the needs of a skilled trades shortage, • observe a student before making a decision to register him/her as an apprentice, and • reduce employment costs by increasing productivity, as students become more skilled
If you are interested in participating or would like further information please contact the Cooperative Education Department at the secondary school nearest you or the OYAP office.
